An invitation to visit Gien, from the Malmesbury Twinning Association

Malmesbury Twinning Association

Malmesbury Twinning Association are delighted that they have been invited to send a group to attend the Comice Agricole in their Twin Town of Gien, in July 2022.

Gien is on the Loire, midway between Orleans and Burgundy, and has been officially Twinned with Malmesbury since 2000.

All residents of Malmesbury and surrounding villages are invited to join the visit.

Gien hosts the Comice Agricole once every six years. This is a prestigious event in the calendar of Gien and the surrounding Loire valley rural communities.

In 2022 it will be held over the weekend of 30/31 July.

The weekend will include exhibitions, competitions, visits to rural enterprises, food, and of course, wine!

The whole town and surrounding villages are involved.

There will be a ‘cavalcade’ (a grander version of our own carnival procession) including representation from the local villages and often includes folk dancers from all over France.

The evenings provide musical and artistic entertainment (with more local food and wine!), culminating in a spectacular firework display over the river Loire.

It is an honour to have been invited and it will be an opportunity to re-invigorate our Twinning links after two interrupted years.

Our visit in 2022 will be from Thursday 28th July , returning on Tuesday 2 August.

You do not need to be a member of Twinning to participate and the only costs involved will be for travel. (Hopefully coach, Eurostar, coach).

All accommodation will be provided with our friends in Gien and other costs (trips, dinners etc) covered by the Gien Twinning Association (Jumelage).

It would be useful to know soon if you might be interested, as travel arrangements will have to be booked at the beginning of 2022. Our next committee meeting is on Tuesday 4th January and this would be a good date to aim for  a response.
