Malmesbury Town Council are aware of concerns from some residents about signage and safety fencing installed at Filands play area.
Both have been considered essential by the Town Council, to deter children from using an earth mound as a cycle ramp. The landing area of the mound is very close to play equipment and so presents a risk both to riders and any children using the equipment.
Unfortunately, the signage and safety fencing have been taken down, but these will be reinstalled by the Council.
The Council’s insurers have advised both are essential as the Council is liable should any injury occur.
The Council has also received complaints from some residents about the behaviour of children cycling on the mound, concerned for the safety of all users of the play area.
Access to quality play areas is a priority for Malmesbury Town Council, which supports the ambition to create a new community park at White Lion Park, potentially including a pump track, skatepark, and MUGA (Multi-Use Games Area).
